Overview:
"Wholehearted" is the highly anticipated new album from Fort Collins-based singer/songwriter Liz Barnez. Over eight years, Liz has crafted these twelve songs in Colorado and around the country that showcase her rich musical heritage, playful spirit, and sharp lyrical prowess.

Musical Journey:
At the heart of "Wholehearted" are the songs themselves, each demonstrating stylistic diversity while staying true to the emotion and intention behind the lyrics. The album features a collection of compassionate and introspective tracks—including a groovy waltz “Snow on the Bayou” reflecting on climate change and a poignant protest anthem “Stay Strong” encouraging listeners to champion justice. Infused with elements of folk and funk, the music captures the essence of Colorado's landscape intertwined with New Orleans’ vibrant roots.

Voice and Lyrics:
Liz's voice has evolved into a mature, rich, soulful instrument, reminiscent of fine aged Bourbon—full of wisdom, depth and expression. Her storytelling shines through in tracks like "Hey Love" where she engages in a heartfelt dialogue with love itself, revealing the powerful vulnerability of her vocal delivery.

Recording and Production:
The album was recorded at various esteemed studios, including Dawg House Studio in Loveland with Dave Beegle, who also contributed his musicianship across all stringed instruments. Other collaborators included John Macy at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver, Darren Radach at Stout Studio in Fort Collins, and Maia Sharp in Nashville, ensuring a rich tapestry of sound across the project.

Collaborative Spirit:
Community has always been central to Liz's music, and "Wholehearted" is a testament to the talented musicians and friends who have shaped her journey. Notably, Liz's wife, Lori Daigle, ignited the protest anthem “Stay Strong” with lyrics she penned on an envelope, asking, “Could this be a song?” Liz's encouraging reply launched an empowering collaboration. Lori also provided additional lyrics and vocals on the title track, joined by their daughter Hale and family friends Lauren Magnie and Elena Serine of The Magnie Family Band.

The bulk of the songs are original to Liz with the addition of Lori on lyrics on a few and then there are two “cover” songs that are favorites of Liz and she is excited to include them on this record.  Liz's interpretation of Diana Jones's "A Hold on Me" celebrates life, while her sultry rendition of John Hiatt’s “Feels Like Rain” offers a fresh, feminine perspective.

Musical Contributions:
The recording showcases a vibrant roster of musicians, starting with the foundational work laid down by drummers Christian Teele and Bryon Holley and bassist’s  Eric Thorin and Marty Rein. Also in the early stages of recording were Eric Moon, a Denver-based keyboardist known for his soulful Hammond B3 and accordion contributions. “Over You By Birmingham features Bonnie Sims on mandolin and vocals and Taylor Sims on electric guitar and vocals. The project also features standout moments like the Dixieland flourish in “Over You By Birmingham,” with Ethan Leaming on trombone and Andrew Vogt on clarinet and baritone saxophone. John Macy contributes pedal steel guitar to “Snow on the Bayou” and he recruited Chris Leuzinger (Nashville) to play guitar on “Feels Like Rain”… Add to the mix the Soulful backing vocals on a couple of songs from Subdudes (Steve Amedee, John Magnie, and Tim Cook) on tracks that embody the essence of community spirit.

Visual Storytelling:
Photographer Marc Leverette captures the soulful simplicity of this project, assisted by his wife, Lehne, during the creative process. Special thanks to Mariah at Paul Chet Studio for hair and makeup, and to Barb Schmidt for the thoughtful layout and design of the CD artwork.
